Otosclerosis
It is disease of altered bone Metabolism where new bone formation takes place. The new bone formed stiffens the stapediovestibular joint thereby reducing the movement of stapes and thus impedes sound transmission, resulting in conductive hearing loss. When new bone formation goes to COCHLEA, person develops sensorineural hearing loss mostly seen in women but may be present in both the sexes.
Age of presentation:
20—45 years.
It may be Unilateral but mostly Bilateral. Person has difficulty in understanding speech. Usually associated with TINNITUS.
Treatment: Antiflourides. Growth Hormone Inhibitors.
Stapedectomy
Here fixed staps are replaced by either Teflon or Titanium prothesis to transmit sound waves to COCHLEA.
